Every time I reboot my dial up connection settings change to "never dial a connection" instead of "always dial my default connection". I've deleted and reinstalled this connection and I always hit apply but when I reboot it goes right back. This is annoying, does any one have any ideas? I thank you in advance for info that helps!!

1. Scan for virus and spyware, I prefer spybot from
2. Run through the internet connection wizard, see if that resets anything.

3. Might repair IE from add/remove programs in the control panel. Select IE, hit remove, you'll see the repair option.

First let me say Thank You for the quick reply but it didn't work. My first thought was spyware or virus so I've ran those several times to make extra sure they were clean. I used search&destroy and ad-aware and the latest norton. That didn't solve my dilema so I deleted and re-installed the connection and that didn't work either so thats when I posted here. I wasn't aware of the repair option in IE so I did as was suggested and it still didn't solve my problem. Just so we're clear I have 98se with norton 2004, zonealarm, and a google toolbar. I always run spybot and ad-aware regularly. I have all the latest windows updates. I thought of running norton system works to see if it could repair a possible registry problem? I'm lost as to what could have caused or be the cause of this. I hope some one that has delt with this can shed some lite on the subject. Or any one with more knowledge than me could point me to the solution. Again thank you mattjurado for the reply.

When did this start? Recently? Any new applications?

ZoneAlarm and Norton System Works 2003 were definitely incompatible with each other for me - I had to uninstall ZoneAlarm before Norton would install and work right. Did they fix that on Norton 2004?

Guys
Yes the problem started recently. About a week and a half ago. I'm leaning towards what ron is talk about because if memory seves me right it was about that time I upgraded from free zonealarm to zonealarm pro. I use avg antivirus though not systemworks. But it does seem as thogh something will not let the change stay in effect after a reboot. Tell you what. I'm going to uninstall Zonealarm pro and make the change in settings then reboot and see what happens. If things work correctly I'll then try to put Zonealarm pro back on and see what happens then. I'll post the results so all will know. Thanks for the replies. I'm gratefull!

Well so far nothing I've tried has worked so I could use some input again. I'm at a loss.

Did you try removing zonealarm?

Ok, after I removed Zone alarm I rebooted two different times with no difference. My settings were still reverting back even when I would change them to what I wanted and hit apply. But on the third reboot things started working correctly. So as of now all my settings are as I want them. I also failed to mention before that when I would shut down my system it would take about 4 to 5 minutes to shut down. Now it is shuttong down within seconds as it should. So I'm assuming that the Zone alarm thing was the problem and that it just took a couple reboots to over write with the correct parameters. I guess I'll try Kiero as a firewall and see if it is compatable. Thanks for all the input!!!!

Get a Linksys router better. Hardware devices are nicer because communications hits them from the outside, and not your machine, and they don't consume resources.
