I tried to post this once, it hasnt shown up yet so I am posting it again. Sorry for the double post if it finally does post.

I have a customer that has an IPO R5 at three locations, one site has extensions numbers that are in the 100s, another site with 200s and the last with 500s. They have a quite a few employees that will press 9 out of habit to get outside line, even though they want to call an extension, then press somewhere between ext 111 and 119...Getting 911. Is there a way to change what they dial to get an outside line to something else, Maybe 8???

Well you can change the trunk access to 8 by modifying your shortcodes.

example, 8N,Dial,N,50:ARS

If I were you, I would create a seperate ARS table though and keep the 9, for true emergencies you still need 9 as a trunk access. People who are paniced would typically not remember to hit 8 then 911.

You can tell people that they need to hit 8 to get out, it might help break the habit, but you should really keep 9 in place anyway for true emergencies. So 9 to hit the default ARS, then 11 for the 911 call..

Although, as I was typing this you may be able to create a user with an extension as 911, then have it forward the call to 8911.

Or have a voicemail pro menu asking them if they really want to dial 911 and have a really short timeout to execute the 911 call anyway, if they would have maybe a second to hit 1 to cancel, it would D/C.

Just an idea.

element4749, no, never route emergency calls via VM, it's a bad idea especially when VM is down and someone is dying/the building is on fire :)

You cannot prevent doing stupid things with the ipo.
You can try to change the programming or tell stupid idiots to dail the right digits.
Dod you know that monkeys can remember up to 8 digits? :)

BAZINGA!

I'm not insane, my mother had me tested!

Haha,

We have had several accidental 911 calls here. I don't know how people can hit the wrong digits so many times. You are correct amriddle, I never said it was a good idea! haha, although a backup HG could be an option. Still a bad idea I suppose. :)

create the 8N shortcode and put 911 into the ARS you are using or if you are using the default ARS the change the 11 shortcode in the ARS to go to 811 instead (used sometimes for government access numbers)
create a system shortcode
911
dial
911
line group ID of your lines

done

no routing over voicemail or forwarding users or any other complicated actions and no accidental acces code pluss 11 to call emergency.

perhaps changing the extn numbers in the 100's for something else would be the safest solution

even in the uk I dont like 1xx extn numbers because they clash with out operator numbers, & we dont usualy bother with a line access digit as our networks can handle in band signaling to complete the dialed number ;-)
