Hi everibody,
I'm a newbie. My boss asked me if we can block dial-in and dial-out session, because this action is considered a kind of security hole.
Can MD110 (BC11) understand the kind of traffic (eg, handshake protocol with anlog modem) and reject it?
I've searched in all the forum but I can't manage to find any answer or even a clue. I know that Md110 have been projected to provide this kind of traffic (teleworking and dial-out), but I think that, when md110 was bought, the company didn't consider this aspects.

"dial-in and dial-out session2" , do you mean external follow me ?
Pls explain more.

Your question is unclear. Do you want to block modem access through the switch? This is not possible unless you replace all analogue lines with digital.

Please make the question clearer.

I'll try to be more accurate (I'm sorry not to be so clear).

We would like to prevent our employes from "remote accessing" an Internet provider throught a dial-up connection. They usually unplug the cable from the analog phone, plug it in the modem and then dial-up to an Internet Provider.

In my opinion, the only way to stop data traffic is to know which telephone numbers belong to internet providers and make restriction on dialing of this numbers.
Maybe, if you are using ISDN towards Telecom, you could play with bearer parameter of the route (BCAP), or with bearer conversion (NUTRI command)to restrict data traffic...but I think that exchange would not be able to find out if there is any data traffic inside the normal speech signal.
Maybe, you should try with "expensive route warning tone" for outgoing calls. If modem receives unexpected tones it would hang up...but your fax machines would do the same...
Does anyone have any other idea?

I think you can use, if you know Internet provider phone number, LCR DNT1 and DNT2 tabs to avoid this type of traffic.
The solutione requires frequent maintenance because you have to add new number when you know it, but is a clean solution

Hi Inge3277
Change your class of service for your general analog phones or those being abused. if you go to thread 806-573008 Isinor gives you details on CDCATS. You will need to know the numbers being called but your call accounting software will show this ie. greater than 2,3,4 hours & calls to 0867xxx or whatever. I have had similar problems and a printout to the section Manager with the charges soon sorts it. All the best Hitechbuzz
