Dial By Name Directory

I have two subscribers with similar names Carns and Carney. When one uses the Dial By Name Directory it askes for the first four letters of the last name. So I dial 2 2 7 6 and the call goes to Carney. I have other users, Smith for example, where it askes for more letters and then offers a choice, like "Press one for 'Liddell Smith' or two for 'Kimberly Smith' ". Any ideas bout what is wrong? ... I changed the spelling of their names to Carn. Now it works.
 
Long shot, did you have the , between first & last names?
 
Nope. The names are in two different boxes on the screen.
 
What directory are you referring to? VM, PBX, etc...? release MM, AAM, 6.3, utility...?
 
Its Aura voice mail.

Both subscribers have their names recorded.
 
I think think the proper name of the vm platform is Avaya Aura Messaging
