Hi There

It seems that im no longer able to add consoles to our network using DHCP, ive checked our range and the ip addresses in use and there are about 50 IP's available, it also seems that instead of giving out one ip address after another, the dhcp is assigning random ips, for instance, the last IP address in our range was assigned the last time i was able to use DHCP! i now have to use static ips and enter all info manually, this works fine but i would like all our consoles to be using DHCP!

Can anyone tell me why im no longer able to use DHCP even though i have around 50 IPs available?

Cheers

What exactly do you mean by adding consoles to your network? Are these computers? Did you check the DHCP server console to see what existing leases exist, it could be that they are all being used up (you don't have a RRAS server on your network by any chance)
Please provide more information regarding your problem, unfortunately there is not enough here to give you a more concise answer

It could be that your DHCP table is corrupted. We had a problem with ours a while ago. It was giving out overlapping addresses, addresses not in its range and reported a greater number of free addresses than were configured in its scope. I did a export, which was not corrupt, deleted the server and created a new one and then imported data. In the week leading up to the change I also decreased the lease time to < one hour.

Thanks for the reply

Sorry about the slang, consoles on the network are PC's, ive also checked the range of the leases and there are loads avaialable - they range from 1 to 69 but there spread throughout this instead of being continous!

We do not have a specific server for RRAS, this server runs windows 2000 and we use SBS admin console!

If any more info is required please let me know as im pretty new to all of this!

Cheers
