DHCP Testing tools for failover

I have set up the scenario that everyone suggests for having a set of DHCP servers that share a set of ip addresses and have exclusions that keep them from stepping on each other. Ech server can dish out 100 addresses in each subnet that they manage.

In order to test the second server, I need to be able to have the client listen ONLY for the second server to respond to the DHCP requests it sends.

I really don't want to just shut the first server off and see if the second one picks everything up at this point.

Does anyone know of a tool/utility that I can tell the client specifically what server to listen to for a DHCP response? I figure if I can at least verify that the server is responding, then the next step would be safer to perfrom.

Thanks

You can put a sniffer on the subnet of the client and have the client do a release/renew. You should be able to see the offer packet from both of the DHCP servers.

I will give that a shot. For some reason that didn't cross my mind. I have a sniffer running almost all the time any more!

Thanks

Bryan
