Hi everyone:

We have a small network approximately 350 users and we are having some issue with our dhcp server running out of addresses. Our DHCP server is setup the following:

192.168.141.1 - 192.168.141.254
192.168.142.1 - 192.168.142.254
Mask 255.255.254.0

This setting was working before until the PDC crash due to unknown reason. We manage to bring it backup but the problem was not seeing the other scope after the first scope was full. We tried to re-create the superscope would not let us stating that the scope already exist. Please help how I can resolve this issue.

Thanks in advance everyone,
ralwyn

Try this:

Scope : 192.168.140.01 - 192.168.141.254

Subnet Mask: 255.255.254.0 or /23 (512 hosts)

Anything in the event logs showing problems other than what you know about? More info about the crash would help. Good luck.

I did setup the DHCP scope as stated. Then I created the superscope. The issue that I having I am not seeing the other scope 192.168.142.1 - 192.168.142.254. Whe I tried to recreate this scope it tells me that this scope is already exist and would not let me create it.

Does this means that I have rebuild my DHCP? Or is there a way to see the hidden scope...

Thanks in advance,
-Ralwyn

Now I see your point, I thought you're rebuilding it with new addressing scheme.

Most probably the DHCP database was corrupted.

Do further troubleshooting and testing first but this is a last resort, you can rebuild your DHCP. (Removed and recreate again), but before that, stop the DHCP service and backup the registry and c:\winnt\system32\dhcp folder.

After the backup and DHCP was removed then you can rename the folder c:\winnt\system32\dhcp to dhcp1 and delete the registry entry HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\DHCPServer but as I said again back up the registry first.

Now you can re-create your DHCP and your scope again.

This fix assumes you are backing up your servers. Restore the %SystemRoot%\System32\Dhcp\Backup\Dhcpcfg file to a temporary folder. Follow the procedures posted in Microsoft TechNet KB169229. It's a very easy to use set of instructions. This will restore your DHCP to the way it was before the server crashed. Good Luck.
