Hey there,

I have an Alpine 3800. I have setup a VLan with DHCP enabled. Duplicate address are being handed out after the first person logged in. I have messed with the Lease expiration but could not set it higher than 3600 (secs). I don't know if this has anything to do with the problem, however.

Did I miss something or does DHCP really not work on the Extreme stuff?

Dan

Are you using the Alpine to hand out DHCP or an NT Server? We have an NT Server administering DHCP and multiple vlans receiving IP's via DHCP and we have no problem

I was attempting to get the Alpine to hand out the address. I'm still in the beta phase of our Vlan implementation. This leads me to two questions:

Does the Alpine have an issue handing out addresses?

How does NT communicate with the system at the end of a port-based Vlan to send a address to it? You've got me on that one!

Dan

You configure the vlans on the switch, on the NT server you create your DHCP ranges. On the Switch you create a udp forwarding group, to forward the dhcp request to the server, and replies back. It's the same function that you can do on the cisco routers. If you need I'll upload a sample config on monday.

A sample config would be much appreciated. I'm not in a hurry though and I value your time and expertise. Thank you for your help!

Dan

Ok here's a sample.
UDP-Profile
create udp-profile <profile name>
configure <profile name> add 67 ipaddress <DHCP server IP address>
configure <vlan name> udp-profile <udp profile name>

Just set the DHCP scopes to match your vlan's IP info.If you go to they have a online support tool VIC. It's pretty much an on line version of the user manual.
good luck

This is exactly the information that I needed. Thank you.

I haven't tried the online VIC. I'm not impressed with the DOCS. Do you have other resources for Extreme setup info that you could direct me toward, also?

Dan

For the most part, it is going through the Userguide, then playing in our testlab. Occassionally I'll contact our Sales Eng. if I'm experiencing a weird issue. We have done a fair bit with our Extreme gear, if there is anything you are currently working on let me know. If we have done it I'll let you know.
