What is wrong with my damn box this time? any guesses?

What kind of "box" is it? 3300 or 200 (or 3100)
If it's been working and suddenly stopped passing out addresses, a system reboot is possibly in order. Also how big is your DHCP scope? (Could it be possible that it's out of addresses?)

I reset it back to scratch and I cant get it to hand out IP adresses. I can set my ip address manually on my computer and log in and stuff, but I set the computer to get its ip address through DHCP and i get a 169 address. its also not giving out ip addresses to the IP phones.

(this is just a lab 3300)

Have you done a DBMS SAVE command in the maintenance command line yet?

The 169.x.x.x is the default that the NIC will use when no DHCP server is present. I use the Alternate configuration option in the NIC card set up when it is available. I set it to 192.168.1.9, which will work with any Mitel out of the box.

dbms save rings a bell from school. what was that for again?

I can get into the box just fine if I set an ip address

Hey, try delete and re-create the DHCP scope, however will require a reboot for this to effective.

go to the maintenance commands and type in "dbms stat". Look for this line "DBMS info: DBMS_INITIALIZED is on " If it says OFF, then you need to do another command, "DBMS SAVE". This will turn on the DHCP.

DBMS Save is the second step you should perform on a system (after loading licenses). Forget at your peril.

3rd is command - DBMS Check on

That being said, I recently was working with 2 other techs building a MCD (MXe Server) and between us we have over 60 years of Mitel experience. We lost a full days programming by forgetting this simple step and running into the DHCP issue. (We all thought someone else had done it). If you reboot the system with the initialized flag off, goodbye data.

Lesson learned, DHCP not working? DBMS Save!

kwbMitel, 100%. I'm stepping on it every single time when installing new system :(

dbms saved. dhcp is working. thanks!

what is dbms check on?

This DBMS Save has tripped us up a few times too. I finally wrote it in the Tech HB everywhere DHCP is even mentioned (we always print-out the Tech HB - nice to have a hard copy)

DBMS Check on will initiate a scheduled daily DBMS check at 5:00am.

The time and schedule can be modified but daily at 5:00am has always worked for me.

In hotel's running PMS integrations you might want to play with this value as the PMS has a higher priority and the system can fail the DBMS check resulting in a Major alarm. A subsequent successful DBMS check will clear the alarm.
