Hi,
I have a niggling problem on our NT network which is running DHCP and WINS. The event log on certain workstations is showing this DHCP error:

DHCP IP address lease 10.1.1.202 for the card with network address 00D0B7BCA90A has been denied.

Despite this, the workstations are logging on to the network without any problems. The DHCP server is set for a 3 day lease for addresses.

Any ideas?

Increae your 3 day lease to 30, that is usually the standard and should alleviate some of the issues...

STANDARD? 30 DAYS? In who's world? Only if you have a vast abundance of IP addresses available. Using the 10.1.x.x network he probably does, but let's not call this "standard".

Things to check:

Are you using multiple DHCP servers?
Are your DHCP Servers up to current service pack levels? (at least SP5).
Are you using client reservations?

Answers to these will get us started...

Mark, was this really necessary?

Hmmm

Does appear as though 3 days would be more the 'standard' if there was one.

increasing the lease time will not cure your problem.

Check what Voyager said and also 'Scope'

"Certified in most things but not one to boast"

Hehehe :)

A 30 day lease won't cure the problems and could create some. Leave it as 3 day and do a ipconfig/all or winipcfg details. Check to find the ip address of the dhcp server. This may help.

First Ping 10.1.1.202 you will might find it responds, meaning someone staticly assigned it. (you may need to slap some hands or put out some policies)

The other problem is if Machine 00D0B7BCA90A doesn't have a ip address (he might have a different one) but anyway if he's logging without a IP address (IPX or Netbios) you may want to start cleaning up your server..
