i have a location that has random from time to time phones that get hung on Discover x.x.x.x the phones are at 2.8 and clans at the newest. if i statically assign them they work okay. i thing its something related to their DHCP Server possibly, but then again the phone does at least get info from it as it will load from the TFTP server. if i run the boot test it fails, the data vendor says that the cisco switch thinks its a threat and doesnt allow it to run. the boot test does work if you replace the cisco swith with another. spanning tree is diabled. its a cisco 500 series.

How about a Clan that is not connected to the LAN. IP phones will load balance by design between IP endpoints.

Is the address it is trying to discover in the same IP subnet? If not check the mask and gateway that the dhcp server is giving the phones.

2 clans both good. dhcp scope is good to my knowledge. i really think its something with the cisco switch.

did you ever get an answer to this.

I have noted on 2.8 fw and tested it also with 2.4, and the issue is still there.

my issue is that phone boots up, get log in screen, if you dont enter details, after a few minutes its goes to discover and get stuck on LSP address. Need to power cycle phone to get back to login screen.

If you miss it agian, the issue repeats???

Any ideas.

Thanks.

forgot to mention, this customer doesnt have cisco switches, but does have a cisco router.

Hi,
I would suggest to verify the basic settings like IP address, subnet mask, gateway ping test. I would suggest to connect IP phone n/w cable to a laptop and trying reaching the router, server,CLAN etc..just to reconfirm that no probs with LAN...you can also check the speed settings at each end ....
I had faced the same problem.. finally found that the problem was at router end...
bye....
