We have a site that is using a SonicWALL TZ-200 and we're installing a Mitel (Intertel) 5000. The 5000, unlike other Mitel IP products, doesn't have a DHCP server. The customer has been using the SonicWALL TZ-200 for DHCP for the Data Network.

I've managed to get the SonicWALL's DHCP server to hand out IP addresses to the Voice Subnet, but option 43 won't take the "string" - syntax was incorrect - I don't know what the format should be.

Option 125 took what I had from either a 3300, or from the DHCP option 125 helper tool from Mitel. The phones won't use it. Apparently the format is incorrect for the SonicWALL to use.
I've had to use the legacy options, 128,129,130,132,133,134 to make the phones come up properly.

Here's what I've got from the DHCP option 125 tool from Mitel...
id:ipphone.mitel.com;sw_tftp=192.168.4.2;call_srv=192.168.4.2;vlan=2;l2p=6v6s6;dscp=46v46s46;

This is the same syntax that shows in the Mitel 3300. I'm not using a proxy server or IP phone analyzer, but I'm wondering if I need to put a placeholder for them in the string.

If anyone has done this successfully, please post the string and how you got it.

I've opened a ticket with SonicWALL, and they weren't sure how the syntax had to be for the Mitel phones.

Sincerely,
Mark

I'm having a problem with the DHCP server on our TZ100... The phones are seeing option 128/129/etc but if I program 125 they do not see it and say 128 missing... Also, letting them use 128 gives out some astronomical VLAN ID and no Priority. What I noticed is that the Sonicwall's DHCP option setting for a simple number (such as VLAN is "2") is "One Byte Data" (correct?) and I'm wondering if there's a compatibility issue...

What do your SW DHCP values look like that have worked?

Thanks!

Hi,

I've worked with 5000 systems a couple of times. Option 43 should be the same string as option 125.

The only difference between option 43 and 125 is that option 43 does not need a "vendor id" which some DHCP servers (like microsoft one!) does not support natively.

In your case, maybe the phones didn't use your option 125 because the vendor id (=1027) was missing.

You have 3 choices :

- Use option 43
- Use "DHCP Option 125 Config Helper" tool from Mitel Online, which will generate the option 125 vith the vendor ID in hexadecimal. Maybe you can paste hex data in you SonicWALL configuration?
- Use legacy 128+ options. The problem with that is that we don't know when Mitel will stop support it...

Hope it helps!

Option 125, as Mitel IP phones need it, doesn't work with the Sonicwall. Option 43 won't even take the string on Sonicwalls at all. So we're left with having to use the regular 128 through 132 options as usual, which work fine.

I found out you need to use Four Byte Data for the VLAN and Priority and format the option as "0002" for VLAN 2 (example) and "0006" for Priority 6. That worked.
