hi, the address leases in my dhcp show a few ip's that have no description or name, just the ip address, i did a reverse lookup to find out the name of the computer but it just doesn't exists. i got the MAC address but not the host name
the only reazon why i'm worried is because that address is consuming 22% of my bandwidth, i killed it from dhcp but i'm afraid it will come up again

any thoughts?

Do you have something other than computers connected to your network?

I'm Certifiable, not cert-ified.
It just means my answers are from experience, not a book.

yes, printers and ip phones, but i checked all of their ip adresses and none of them has that ip nor would they take that much bandwidth
it has not come back since i deleted the lease yesterday tho

douglasemc,
from a command prompt:
Code:
ping -a 192.168.0.0
where 192.168.0.0 is the ip of the device you want the name of.
if the device is named it should be returned right before the ping information.
regards,
longhair

Unfortunately ping -a only seems to work in identifying Windows based devices and not *nix hosts, and other IP devices. I would try to identify the MAC address vendor by going to from there you might be able to narrow down in what device this NIC might apply to.

Also check for copiers that are network enabled. I've seen circumstances where a Fiery went bad and flooded the network like you are describing.

I hope you find this post helpful.

Regards,

Mark
