Hi,
Our Setup consists of a Windows2003 Server acting as a DC. We have a DHCP server running on it. Quite often, we have seen that the IP addressess leased by the server are not updated on the server. Due to this, we have issues with our home grown tool (which sends notes to pc based on the IP Address).
How do we correct this ?

ANy help would be appreciated.

Thanks

Regards

Jagdish

Make sure that the workstations are configured to register their IP address with the DNS server.

Make sure that the DHCP scope options correctly pushes out only internal DNS server addresses and not ISP DNS server addresses.

I hope you find this post helpful.

You also want to make sure that you have DNS scavanging turned on and set-up correctly so that it clears out old IP addresses properly from your DNS.

Good luck

Hi Markdmac,

Thanks for your inputs :

1. Workstations are configured to register the IP address with the DNS server.

2. The DHCP scope options pushes out only internal DNS server addresses and not ISP DNS server addresses.

Hi lhuegele,

Thanks for your inputs.

DNS scavanging is turned on and set-up correctly so that it clears out old IP addresses properly from your DNS.

Now what else could be the problem ?

Verify that Power Management on the NICs is not set to allow the PC to turn off the NIC.

Power Management is not ON.

I forgot to mention this. The problem reported is not for the entire scope of 250 IPs. It happens randomly for some IPs and the problem is intermittent.

Maybe you have a problem with the DHCP database. Have you tried compacting and repairing it?
