Hello,

I keep receiving an event 40961 in the event log, every hour. The 40961 is NOT accompanied by the 40960 as referred to on Microsoft's site. EventID.net sayd that this message appears every hour because I need to check the credentials of the DDNS section of the server properties in DHCP. I do not recall defing anything in there when I set up the scopes... and all I see now is a password and confirm password defined. The Username and Domain name are unpopulated.

I upgraded the server from 2000 DC to 2003 DC last week and only started receiving the errors after the upgrade. Should I use an admin equivalent username in this area? The server and scopes are (seemingly) working fine- this is just a nuisance.

Thanks!

Hi,
We are having the same issue with the 40961 events generated every hour on Windows 2000 DCs upgraded to Windows Server 2003. Did you ever get an answer on why this occurring and how to stop it? With a Bind DNS server that doesn't allow dynamic updating, in Windows 2000 we used to use HKLM\System\CCS\Services\Netlogon\Parameters\RegisterDnsARecords = 0 to dispense with this problem but it doesn't seem to work under W2K3. Thanks for any info!

sounds like you're having an issue with a missing reverse lookup. Are the warnings you're getting dealing with LSASRV? looking for Prisoner.iana.org?
