I am have setup a Windows 2003 Server, and I want to setup DNS and DHCP on this server. I cant seem to get the DNS and DHCP setup correctly. I have a Linksys router and I go in there and disable the DHCP Server. I lose internet and cant seem to get everything working. Any help on this subject would be appreciated. Cant the router act like a gateway for the internet and have it all run off the server.

Yes your setup should work. Setup the DHCP server with a scope to match your internal network. The server options should list your linksys as the Router. In DNS make sure you have your forwarders setup correctly referencing either your ISPs DNS servers or your Linksys.

hmmm, well...not sure exactly what the problem is and I'm assuming your at home trying to set up a lab for some practice??? If you can't get your dchp server to server IPs to your client then you should just disconnect the linksys routers cable to the internet. Then restart your dhcp service (or reboot) so the servers dhcp service begins to server IPs from the dhcp pool. Reconnect the cable back to the router then set up your default gateway using the IP address to the router. This will allow your dhcp server to communication with your dns serve and allow you to get out to the internet as well.

Yes I am setting up a practice lab, I will go ahead and try what you have suggested. Thanks alot for all the replies, I will be working on this little later and will post back.
