Hi

I've got a DFS share (with replicas) that holds my company templates. (Word, PowerPoint and Excel). I use a group policy to have office set the shared templates path to the DFS share.

Users then just need to go to File and New in the office app to get to the templates. This works fine for Word and PowerPoint but when trying to access the files in excel I get a \\dommainname can not be found. This also happens if I open the DFS share in explorer and double click on the template.

Anybody have any ideas?

I know this has been a long time since this initial post but does anyone out there have a solution?

I have a DFS share that one particular user cannot open up any Excel documents period.

All others have no issues.

Hi

I can't remember where I found this solution but it worked for me. Copy the following into a notepad doc and save it as exceldfs.reg

Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\9.0\Common]
"AlternateParseDisplayNameMethod"=dword:00000001

then copy the file to the problem computer and double click on it. or just make the reg change directly on the computer. I used the first method because all my machines were affected.

hope this helps.

Star for you ACraib. Had the same problem with Excel. I will have to push the reg hack down to the clients through GPO. All of our systems are up to date in Office and Windows updates. Wonder if M$ has a patch?

Thanks.
