Please help. I need to make the alerts sent by DFM more meaningful to management. As at now, it only sends ip addresses of devices but i need to be able to say Switch on 2nd floor and so on. Any ideas howI can do this?

Thanks

I have set up CiscoWorks to send messages to our mobile phones and email addresses. How do I get it to send host name rather than ip addresses so that it is more meaningful?

Thanks

Are all the devices in CW in RME/CM by IP address? if so you need a name server. and a naming standard !

This can be provided a number of ways DNS or host file.
host file is easy to do but does not scale well in large environments.
If you have a DNS on the network get the ciscodevices in there and configure the cw2k box to use the dns server.
the host file is /etc/hosts ane %SYSTEMROOT%\system32\drivers\etc\hosts (neither have file ext and will contain at least 1 example).

Test resolution is working by ping by name or nslookup.

Then you need to get cw2k to use the names. CM should pick them up and switch over on the next discovery.
If you have configured CM to RME export the devices will be passed to RME as new (I think).
RME needs a trip to the device import status (also after a discovery) and clicking on the alias button you should see devname was known as x..y.z.a select the devices with names and select use imported devices, then finish.

If RME refuses to find the devices then you can do an import from file containing all the device names
