Hi,
this is general question -

Single component DeviceN color space:
[/DeviceN [(Spot Color)] /DeviceCMYK { --proc-- }]

Separation color space:
[/Separation (Spot color) /DeviceCMYK { -- proc -- }]

Are these color space equal from postscript point of view?

Thanks,
Michael

No they aren't
/DeviceN is Level III only when the /Separation color model is allowed in level II
A lot of others difference!!
Specially in the way the color have to be defined there is a variation on the operator name and usage.
Also a major diff, the impact it have on overprinting. /DeviceN allow a 'safer' definition but every case have to be defined in the color model definition for spot colors, /Separation rely on general graphic state status at the time the object will be drawn.

I sugest looking at PS Specs

I also sugest using /Separation if possible going in the /DeviceN world only if needed.
