All of a sudden my tape drive went off-line..(under device section) and is always pausing my scheduled jobs.. using veritas auto-exec backup 7.2.
Any ideas on how to get it back on-line

Try rebooting the system. I just experinced this problem and had to change the tape drive.

I have also had this unfortunate experience. If the drive is a SCSI tape device, check with your system manufacturer to get an upgrade for the SCSI controllers that take care of the tape drive. This was the case with Dell's systems anyway. Another thing to try would be shut down the server (after hours of course) while the server is down, cycle the power on the drive, and then once the drive is fully up, restart the server... Just a few tricks.... sometimes when you restart the server without cycling power on the drive, things can get a little strange.

cycle power on the drive?? could you please explain that.

PS: to get it back online (temp fix) stop and restart the backup exec services.... oh and one more thing.... if this tape drive is the only one you use for backups, disable the removable storage service in the "services" applet. this takes care of the NTBACKUP that is native to windows and can conflict with veritas.

cycling power on the drive... turn the power off then on for the backup drive.

the backup is an internal drive that only has an eject button on it.. this is an older drive, (almost 4 years). There is not a separate power on/off.

As for the drive it is a Python 02779

Hope this helps.
