device ios error

When I start windows 95 I get an error :<br>while initializing device ios<br>windows protection error<br>please restart your computer<br>If I restart I get the same error, my computer was running ok. Any ideas? I dont want to reformat and reinstall if at all possible. The only other error I have gotten was in control panel an erro referencing vxd ifsmgr.<br>Thanks

1. Try a quick fix: <br><br>- boot in safe mode or to a command prompt<br>- rem out any lines corresponding to Smartdrv.exe from Config.sys and Autoexec.bat<br>- reboot normally<br><br>2. What did you install on the last successful boot?<br><br>3. What's the model of your CPU and HDD?<br><br>Regards!

Try the following:<br>boot in safe mode and uninstall last software you have installed, or uninstall last device connected.With this fix I resolved a lot of similar problems.

I got this error when I installed windows 95 on an AMDK6-350.&nbsp;&nbsp;The cause was due to the fact that the processor is to fast for the windows 95 operating system.&nbsp;&nbsp;You will need to get a patch from Microsfot.com.&nbsp;&nbsp;&quot;Sorry I don't know the actual address.&quot;&nbsp;&nbsp;I'm sure the file is called amdk6up.exe.<br>The trick here is to get the operating system to boot normally. Then install the patch.&nbsp;&nbsp;You will have to be patient becuase it took me some time to get it to boot, so that I could install the patch.<br><br>Good luck.<br>bye

My guess is you are use using AMD k6-2 and or MVP3 chipset? If so, get amdk6upd.exe from MSoft. Try the following after you have got it.<br>1. Clock your cpu down to 300mhz<br>2. Disable L1 cache<br>3. Install windows 95<br>4. Install patch amdk6upd.exe<br>5. Enable L1 cache and clock to CPU speed.<br><br>Or install 98.<br>
