Is there a utility available that's better than Microsoft's device driver conflict utility? XP Pro system runs smoothly most of time but occasionally I get error while using MS Explorer (browser) causing application shutdown. When computer is restarted message is displayed stating device driver conflict but Microsoft is unable to determine the offending driver.

Could you look in Event Viewer and post the details of this error?

I've copied some info from app and system errors in Event Viewer:

Faulting application explorer.exe, version 6.0.2800.1106, faulting module gdiplus.dll, version 5.1.3101.0, fault address 0x000214b1.

Faulting application iexplore.exe, version 6.0.2800.1106, faulting module flash.ocx, version 7.0.14.0, fault address 0x00018f50.

Faulting application iexplore.exe, version 6.0.2800.1106, faulting module ntdll.dll, version 5.1.2600.1217, fault address 0x00033905.

The Parallel port driver service failed to start due to the following error:
The service cannot be started, either because it is disabled or because it has no enabled devices associated with

Please let me know if this helps. I no longer use parallel port although 3 months ago I removed Palm Pilot sync cradle.

Thanks for the advice on this and the tip to obtain Hijack this.

I also found that the conflict noted in the Event Viewer was related to parallel port (LPT1) and showed up as problem in device manager. By going into BIOS and changing PNP to "OFF" the conflict was resolved.
