Determining Patch Level for Backup Exec 8.6

Hello All,

I'm new to Backup Exec 8.6 and I'm looking for a reliable way to verify the current patch level. I've looked in the Admin Guide and on the veritas web sight and they both tell you how to install patches but not how to verify your current patch level. May be a simple case of not seeing the forest for the trees but I couldn't find it.

Any suggestions on how to sort through all the veritas patchs would be of great use also. Is there an all-in-on patch or do you have to apply them one at a time?

Version 8.6 only had two builds 3808 and 3878 (see your help about for the revision)

You can go to

http://www.support.veritas.com

and go to support downloads, select Backup Exec Server Products/ Backup Exec for Windows servers and use the filter to select the type - patches and the version that you have being 8.6

The patches listed will let you know if they are for the 3878 or 3808 build.

My advise would be to upgrade to 3878 build and only apply a patch if it is applicable to you. You can download the full version by changing the filter to install.

Go to HELP > About Backup Exec

The popup window will say something like:

Backup Exec
Version 8.60 Rev. 3878

The Revision number is the same as the build number that Bobafet mentioned. These builds/revisions are the same as Service Packs. Veritas also has HOTFIXes that sometimes apply to what you are using. For example, if you are using SQL Agent and have SQL Server 2000 on an active/passive cluster, under certain circumstances you need to have build 3878 and HOTFIX 4.
