Detecting maximum CPU frequency

Does anyone know how to detect the maximum CPU frequency.
-note: i say maximum because i can already detect the current frequency in my program but i am unable to know if this is the maximum (i.e. Speedstep technology reduces the processor speed)

Mark, I don't know the answer to your question but I'm interested in how you are detecting the CPU speed in VB. How exactly are you doing that?
