Hello,

I have a Windows 2000 Server that has suddenly decided it can't get to the internet. It was working until recently. So I pinged the gateway and got a response that said 4 packets sent, 4 packets received 0 lost, but I get this for replies:

Reply from 10.2.34.1: Destination net unreachable

There is a new Windows 2003 SBS on the network, but the system has been working ever since. There are two domains but every machine but this one has internet access. As for other services, it's fine.

Can you ping the server from another machine?

When you say "other services fine" does that mean that other services that require network connectivity to remote services still work even though you cannot ping the gateway?

Have you tried the simple things like changing out the network cable? Is there a static IP or subnet mask misconfigured?

Sorry if these are too obvious - maybe you did them already...

The ICMP - Destination net unreachable message is one which a user would usually get from the gateway when it doesn't know how to get to a particular network.

There are some good troubleshooting tips there...

But if the ip address you gave is your default gateway's ip, then I do not know why you would get the destination net unreachable message.

Thanks, Jason.

I have tried all but the cable swap, but I can get to other services inside the LAN that are IP specific. I accessed the server with RealVNC from another domain.

The site you gave me is great. I have it bookmarked and read through it before it sent to the forum. It just hasn't triggered any ideas yet.

The router (gateway) is managed by SBC. I have discussed it with them and they can't give me any reasonable reason. I can ping the same gateway successfully from other machines and they all can get to the internet.

It's really not killing me right yet because I only want to use the server for Terminal Services, but something is not right and I want to make sure I can understand the issue before I deploy the machine with TS.
