I am very new to illustrator and I have been working on a project for school. Please view the snapshot I have uploaded here: . As you can see, in the center of the picture, I have a black line which is slightly bent going from the top to the bottom. On the left hand side of this arch is the letter E. Everywhere on the picture where there is white, that is actually going to be transparent when printed out. Behind the e there is the gray box. What I need done and I can not figure out how to do it is, On the right hand side of the black curved line, I need to get rid of that little bit of gray so on the right hand side of the curved line, there is no gray. I can not just paint over it with white since I need it to be transparent. Can someone please explain to me how I can remove the little patch of gray? I am very new to this so please explain it as if I was a little kid. I do appreciate all the help that can be given.

Hi Bryan
If you select the gray box then using your pen tool add points
to it on the right side of the rule then using the selection tool
grab each point and drag it to the middle of the rule.
This will tuck it behind the rule.
