How do I remove desktop backgrounds in preferences? I noticed that many images I have downloaded are now on the list including many pictures I took.

Also, what did I do that placed them on my list?

Thanks,
Fred

. .scr extemsopm files are stored in %windir%
Usually, C:\Womdpws

. .bmp, .gif, .jpg and .jpeg are isia;;u stpred om %womdor%\Web\Wallpaper
Usually, C:\WINDOWS\Web\Wallpaper

Now it gets complicated. If using IE and you "set as background" or other options, the file is converted and stored in your user profile.

go to bed Bill!

scr extemsopm files
C:\Womdpws
jpeg are isia;;u stpred om %womdor%

Or is time for a new keyboard?

A new super code?

o = i
m = n
p = o

Thanks, I did not even notice that at first.

thank you. I did go to that folder, but it's only showing me the pre-installed backgrounds. Also, I went to IE options and did not see a box with the "set as background", or user profile.Is the profile in windows?
The beginning of your post was garbled, so I'm not sure if I missed a link.
Thanks for the try.

Sorry "b", but I don't see anything I can use, and I'm chicken to go to the registry.
It seems like there should be an easier way to find the pix in a file and be able to delete them. Also, I'm using XP pro and the thread seems to be for home edition. I'm simply not advanced enough to understand.
Some of the backgrounds that are pre-installed are bitmap and some are jpeg. My downloads are jpeg.
I wonder why they were'nt in the web/wallpaper folder.

Is there something I can do to keep this from happening?

In all likeliehood they can be found here using Explorer:
C:\Documents and Settings\your username\My Documents\My Pictures

If you create a subfolder and move the unwanted pictures, or just delete them, they should no longer be enumerated as a background choice.

In IE the option to "Set as background" is only available via right-clicking on an image contained in a web page.

OK "B", that did the trick. I simply moved them to my 2nd drive , which I maintain anyway and that did it.
Thanks a bunch.
Now, can you direct this dummy to a spot where I can set it, so it won't happen again?
