Desktop Shortcuts

My desktop shortcuts take about 15-20 seconds before they respond. I have no spyware or viruses and am on a corporate network. I have found this question in Google, but no answers.

Do the shortcuts point to or use Network shares?
Are the shortcuts to Network folders?

One of the shortcuts points to the network (Groupwise), the others do not (e.g., MS Word).

Some slowness is to be expected as Explorer validates the shortcut.

Make the changes for general issues relating to browser slowness, especially the search for remote scheduled tasks:

Consider using UNC names or other restatements of the network dependent shortcuts:
