Desktop Shortcut Won't Start Program

This is a wierd one.
I installed a new program (Crazy Talk). When I try to start it from the Desktop Shortcut, I get a small "Restore Down" icon in the center of the desktop, instead of the program.
I can start it from its folder OK. If I MOVE the folder startup shortcut to the desktop, it WON'T WORK. If I then move it back into the folder, it WORKS FINE.
I've never seen anything like this before. Any Ideas?

Check the shortcut properties, file target location, open in location, and any other relevant settings?

See security properties on target folder. There should be full control and set also "allow inheritable permissions from parent to propagate to this object" This should work...

Greenage: All properties are OK. I even tried setting a new shortcut up manually just to be sure. Same Problem.

Syky: I set Full Control on. No improvement. Where do I find "allow inheritable permissins, etc"?

Thanks to both for replies.

Bill

The allow inheritable permissions box is on the security tab at the very bottom when you look at the folder properties.

AFTech81 and Syky,

OK, after much head-scratching looking for the security tabs, I realized that they only show up in NTFS files. The drive that my programs are on is not NTFS. I do have a large NTFS drive for video. Checked files on that drive and sure enough, the security tabs are there. So, that option is not open to my present install. If all else fails, I'll install the program on the NTFS drive and see if that makes any difference.

Thanks again,

Bill

Did you try right clicking and holding on the program file in your Start/Programs/"program folder", then dragging it to the desktop, release and choose "Create Shortcut(s) here" method?

lander215,

I got excited when I read your idea, It was one I hadn't thought of (actually I wasn't aware that it could be done that way). Unfortunately, it has the same problem as creating shortcuts the other ways. Great thinking, though.

Thanks,

Bill
