I've been unable to run the Desktop manager with Outlook 2003 beta on Windows XP. When desktop manager starts up and tries to connect to the email system, a popup window appears with error message: "Handheld Tools Desktop Manager has encountered a problem and needs to close (blah blah blah... ).
The error report error signature contains:
AppName: desktopmgr.exe
AppVer: 3.6.54
ModName: mailserver.dll
ModVer 3.6.0.54
Offset: 0003c8e3

It seems to work on Windows 2000 but not on Windows XP.
Any pointers on how to get around this?

The problem you are having is with Outlook 11. If you install Office XP, then install the Blackberry Desktop Manager, you can then upgrade to Office 2003. Office 2003 Beta leaves alot of the XP files in place. This facilitates the Blackberry Desktop Manager to continue to operate.

You could also install Office 2003 RTM and you should have no problems with the Desktop Manager.

This isn't true.

Blackberry Desktop 3.6 simply doesn't work with Outlook 2003 - the planned release of the SP to fix this is early December 2003.

thanks for the response.

I have gotten outlook 2003 to run with Desktop 3.6 only if previous version of outlook was installed first and upgraded to outlook 2003.

Hi, We had the same problem but it turned out to be, in our case, that if you use exchange server in account settings in "Use Cached Exchange Mode" it causes Desktop Manager to crash. Turn it off and it works fine but Junk Mail filter doesn't work. I have it cached and when I go out and about I turn it off and load desktop manager.

Blackberry Tech Support said they were unaware of this but are now looking into it.

Hope this was of some help. Oh and we are using Retail Outlook 2003 and Exchange 2000

does any one know were you shut off "Use cached Exchage Mode"

Grandfathermax states it works but does not explain were to turn this feature off especialy if it is in desktop manager.

Thx,

Sorry,
In outlook:

Tools->email accounts->View or change existing email account->Change (your Exchange account)->Uncheck the box under your exchange server-> Restart Outlook 2003.
All should be fine (well for me it is)
