I wonder if anybody can help me please.

We currently run in a Windows NT 4 environment and have experienced a couple of 'funnies' which have us confused!!

We set up desktop icons on the users PC, ususally when logged in as the user (i.e. in their own profile/roaming profile) and the application then runs ok (for a while). Then for no apparent reason, it appears that the data in the Target field is erased 9i.e target field is blank and greyed out). If we then signon as an administrator, we can see the Target data without any problems. To fix it all we then do is drag/drop this same icon back to the users desktop, delete the old one and rename the 'Copy of' icon and its back to how it was before..

This suggests it may be some sort of access rights issue but whats confusing is that it often works for quite a while before this happens.

Anybody any ideas/suggestions??

Regards and Thanks

Do these shortcuts map to a share?

I've only come across this when an app was run of a network share, if the users script failed to run correctly and the drive (share) was not mapped, the shortcuts target became corrupted. As it had read only access, this was copied to the users profile and a new shortcut was required/corrected.

Probably no help at all...

Mike,
Yes these icons do map to drives but using URL's rather than drive letters. In every case the specific use is in the appropriate NT user groups to get the required access rights (which is why were getting confused!!).

Thanks for the info.

Any errors in the event logs that coincide with the timeframe that the problem occurs?

Also, can you post a sample of the target of one of these shortcuts?
