I was working on my Windows 2000 PC one day and noticed that the icons refreshed themselves with lower resolution. They are not as clear. I made sure the drivers for my monitor, graphics card and direct x were all the most current. I have an Optiquest V95 monitor on a NVIDIA GeForce2 MX (64meg) card. I am using High Color 16 bit (and have tried True Color). I attemped changing resolutions, going in the effects tab and making sure the 'show icons using all possible colors' is checked; and changing the size of the icons back and forth. I even uninstalled and reinstalled the monitor and graphics card.

Can Anyone Help?

Thanks (The icons in question, most notibly are, the My Computer, Internet Explorer, My Network Places, Recycle Bin. The others seem ok, but I think they are naturally a lower res icon)

I have come across this problem a couple of times on win2k pro as well. Doesnt seem to happen when i isntall xp pro though.
I formatted my maching twice and install windows to try and work out this problem. At first it appears in full colour then after a while reboots it changed into 16 colours again. The only constant before this problem occured was i installed IE6 shortly before it happened all 3 times.
I tried a whole bunch of stuff to get rid of it, Downloaded the latest drivers for everything for the computer, reapplied SP2, deleted the cache file for icons, fiddled with the apperance settings.
None of this seemed to help.
One thing i did notice when i decided to ingore it was that after a while the icons occasionally go back to full colour then after a week or so they go back to 16 colour icons

Does it do the same thing if you try changing the icon itself?

Thanks for the replies.

I am glad to know I am not going crazy and someone else has experienced this. I have been running IE 6 for a couple of months already but that might be the culprit. I have chosen to ignore it for now as well.

Yes, but when attempting to change the icons individually, the choices are only of lower resolution.
