I did a spyware scan with adware this morning and when I restarted, the captions of my desktop icons now have colored backgounds behind them instead of being transparent like they normally are. All of my options in Visual Effects are enabled. Whats the deal?

I don't know what happened... but right click on My Computer > Properties > Advanced tab > Performance Settings button >Visual Effects tab and check the box for "Use drop shadows for icon labels on the desktop".

Like I said in my first post "All of my options in Visual Effects are enabled".

No reason to be rude. Frank4d was just trying to help you.

Try unchecking the box and click apply, and then re-check the box and click apply. It has been my experience that sometimes changes are made by an application and soemtimes parts of Windows don't stay in sync.

If you removed anything with Ad-Aware it has a Restore function to restore anything you removed back to before you ran the program.

You could also see if XP's System Restore will solve your problems?

I wasnt being rude, just reiterrating what I said above. Ive checked and unchecked the visual effects options about a million times. I cant use System Restore because there arent any prior restore points. Yes it is enabled and yes it is monitoring 12% of the disk.

The problem was Active Desktop.

Display Properties>Desktop>CustomizeDesktop>Web. There were about 5 different adware web sites trying to sync with my desktop. Removed them all and rebooted. Fixed.
