Gotta question concerning software desktop firewalls. Can anyone recommend a good server firewall which allows certain services to be let through on a port to port basis? I would just use tcp/ip filtering, but I need to have the option of a trusted subnet for unlimited access. Any recomendations?

Hardware firewall solutions, at the current time, is unfortunatley not an option right now. Thanks

Desktop firewalls?
This is the windows 2000 Server forum! If the solution is here, let us know it was helpful so others can benefit from it as too

I know this is a windows 2000 forum, I just thought it would be a good idea to post here because it is a windows 2000 server I am protecting. I wanted to hear about solutions that you've used.

o, so you mean a firewall to put on a windows 2000 server? If the solution is here, let us know it was helpful so others can benefit from it as too

yes, a software firewall for one of my win2k servers.

I would say, have a look around on the forums at

They all work, but YOU will have to manage them, so if you are not Hi-Tech or don't have the time, keep it simple. If the solution is here, let us know it was helpful so others can benefit from it as too

Suggestion Personaly i have used black ice for years but I like its Gui other than that i use black ice on a server past a linksys router ! So limmetd access would be behind the server as a router win2k dns/ dchp / r/rass server for the domain and then from the router i had used the linksys as a safe restriced no to be part of the doamin , but would still get internet access ,
on the server i had still used flitering with in routing and ras as well as black ice just incase something got passed black ice , For back up !
I have had 2 wink servers running at one time doing the same thing but i dedicated one of them to run windows xp for learning it , so now in its place , i have the linksys router for the dmz and the windows 2k server behind it for the domain !
It can be done
