After installing and running virus and spyware protection, the computer I am working on is running much faster. There is one problem that remains. The desktop display is messed up. The wallpaper that should be there is not, and it can not be changed. It is flickering between white and beige. Every icon on the desktop is always highlighted, no matter where I click. Any ideas on what could be causing this and/or how to fix it?

I think that you were using some fancy wallpaper which was a part of some spyware program.I believe webshots is one type of spyware based on the wallpaper ( not sure though !! )

Try the following. Open up any picture in Internet explorer and right click on that picutre and choose the "Set as Background " Option. See if that takes care of it.

After the game ,the king and the pawn , both go in the same box.

I haven't tried to use a picture from the web or my own folders, but I have tried to change the wallpaper using the existing choices that XP gives you...and it won't change. I'll try what you said when I get home...I'll keep you posted. Thanks
