Hi there,

I have noticed from time to time, XP will prompt you to clean up your desktop. This is not usefull at all.

Where does it put the files it cleans off please?

You should find them somewhere under C:\Documents and Settings\USERNAME.

You can turn this off by right clicking on the desktop and selecting properties..then selecting the desktop tab...then Customize Desktop and uncheck the box under desktop cleanup.

You can retrieve icons you have removed by opening the Unused Desktop Shortcuts folder on your desktop.

"remove unused desktop icons" from Help and Support program.
