I'm looking through the lifecycle matrix for IP deskphones and looks like just about all 96xx series are done in 2020. Starting from scratch on a CM 8 what is the desk phone model if you're coming from a 9630G, 9611G to start moving towards?

The 9608G/9611G go end of sale in June 2019 and are being replaced by the J169/J179 respectively. The 9641GS is still for sale. For scenarios where basic service is required, you can look at the J129 or J139.

96xx is long done. 96x1 WAS current until just recently. J1xx seems to be the new model series. The 169/179 I've used both h323 and SIP Firmware. They aren't bad at all. I like them so far.

I'll order 1 of each to have a play. I won't have my CM8 for a bit, but I assume it can hang off of a 6.3.15? What is the station type it gets administered as? I don't have the J's in my options.

If you use the J169/J179 with H.323 software, they appear to CM as a 9611G.

I got one of each of the J169/J179. The J179 must be defective, since it won't properly boot. The J169 I got working and I have to say the speakerphone quality is pretty awful. My 961x and 96xx's are far better quality. Oh well.. the footprint is pretty good though on the J's.

You should definitely upgrade the J100 series to the latest software. This may fix your audio issue. I like the J169/J179 since they support both H.323 and SIP while the J129/J139 only support SIP.

Remember to order the wireless module if you want to utilize wifi or bluetooth. Only the J129 and J179 support the wireless module.

We are still seeing a couple of behavior variations with the SIP firmware. Also the SIP firmware currently does not support Busy Line Indicators.

Don't forget for Crisis Alert Notification (required by Kari's Law) you will need to setup at least some H.323 endpoints since Crisis Alert Notification is not supported on SIP endpoints yet. SIP Endpoints can activate an alert but cannot receive the notification.

You might also want to try the K155 (Vantage Basic). More difficult to setup but it is a nice phone.

I'm running h.323 6.7002. There's a 6.7.1 and a 6.8, but the readme says it's only compatible w/CM 7 and higher.
