Recently I developed problems with a Guillemot sound card (PII 350 + Intel440BX PC100 + 128 SDram - which nontheless was operating properly and virtually crash-free - despite slightly crappy sound). The manufacturer said that they would replace the card - but could I try re-installing windows (98) and re-installing the card.
I did - ho hum!....
Put in the Sound Card CD ..... Blue screen ..... Hard reset.
Computer then wouldn't boot. No beep, monitor remaining with the orange 'standby' light, just the Hard Disk and PSU fan spinning. UH? (sounds of snot dripping onto metal)
I've had the PSU + Memory + CPU checked - they're apparently ok....
So I bought a new Motherboard of a similar spec' to the original (which had been fine up until lately) - set the jumpers according to the instructions ... clicked home the processor, memory .... attached the cables and wires ..... ....graphics card.... Moment of Glory ? NOPE!!!
Checked and combed ....it all ...... Exactly the SAME AS BEFORE..... all connections solid .... SAME SYMPTOMS (which really pee's me off - because the original MBoard's probably still OK!)
So - is it the power pack ? Is it the CPU ? - did the guy who tested them miss something ? - can powerpacks power 'some' bits and not others ? Please don't just say 'try another PSU' (that's obvious!).
Any info'?
