im under the impression that the :

800 series routers are good for small enterprise
2600 series are for medium
and 3600 or above is for large corporations,

how OFF am i?

I'd say that's about right but one could say that the 3600 are still medium. They would still be used in large enterprise branch offices and that kind of thing so you're kinda right. Those are all fairly old models though.

If you have a good idea what you need it to be able to do, let this be your rough guide (note, these values appear to be worst-case frame sizes and I've always been able to get noticibly better results than the official specifications listed here):
