Does anyone have a description of the various MODES that IP runs on and what they are used for and what the voice mail modes are like Embedded and Pro?

IPO mode is the normal IPO as it always was.
All the other modes as muppetmodes and should be avoided like a plague

BAZINGA!

I'm not insane, my mother had me tested!

Here you find a huge collection of IP Office info

From this database:

IP Office Modes

IP Office systems can run in a number of modes. The following modes are supported by IP500 V2 control units:

IP Office Standard Modes

The following operating modes are collectively referred to as IP Office standard mode. These modes are supported by IP500 and IP500 V2 control units.

• IP Office Essential Edition
This is the default mode for an IP500 control unit. For IP Office Release 9.0, IP500 V2 systems run in this mode if an Essential Edition license is added to the configuration. Systems without a license will not support any telephony functions.

• IP Office Preferred Edition
This mode is similar to IP Office Essential Edition but adds support for the Voicemail Pro application. This mode is enabled by adding a Preferred Edition (Voicemail Pro) license to a system already licensed for Essential Edition.

• IP Office Advanced Edition
This mode is similar to IP Office Preferred Edition but adds support for the Customer Call Reporter application and additional Voicemail Pro features. This mode is enabled by adding an Advanced Edition license to a system already licensed for Preferred Edition (Voicemail Pro) and Essential Edition.

IP Office Basic Edition Modes

The following operating modes are collectively referred to as IP Office basic mode. These modes are supported by IP500 V2 control units only.

• IP Office Basic Edition
This is the default operating mode for IP500 V2 control units.

• IP Office Basic Edition - Norstar Mode
This mode operates the same as the IP Office Basic Edition mode. This mode is sold in North American locales.

• IP Office Basic Edition - PARTNER® Mode
This mode operates the same as the IP Office Basic Edition mode. This mode is sold in Middle East and North African locales.

Other Modes

IP500 V2 systems can also operate in the following additional modes:

• Server Edition
This special mode is not covered by this documentation. Refer to the separate Server Edition documentation. An IP500 V2 system can be used in a Server Edition network as an IP500 V2 Expansion System system. Therefore, the hardware compatibility notes for the IP500 V2 control unit in this manual remain applicable for Server Edition usage unless stated otherwise.

Can a V2 be switched from a Norstar mode for the T7316e sets and back again if these sets are decided not to be used?

Muppet mode is slang for basic mode:)
You can change modes, but keep a backup of the config.

Kind regards

Gunnar

In other words : yes you can switch between different modes but each mode has its own config and these are not interchangeable.
So if you switch mode then you'll have to rebuild the programming as after changing the mode the system will have a default config for that mode.

Any "muppet" mode is good enough for "muppet" business, read "muppet" as small....
Many of those socalled "experts" here can only think in a straight line : "if it ain"t IP Office mode it is crap", I disagree, it is suitable for a lot of real small companies, shops etc.
I have installed a few and only in one occassion it did not fit the customers needs and it had to be upgraded to IP Office mode ( by accident my first "muppet" mode install ) just because sales promised features which are only available in IP Office mode.

Muppet Mode is only good for those sites that want their IP office to act like their old key system I just removed did. They want to see who is on line 1, 2, 3....
Luckily I have gotten no request for this in a quite a while[smile]

But there might be some applications that the site really needs to see what lines are in use such as a Pizza shop or any other site that may have all the sets in one location and will need to say "pick up on line 3" instead of taking time to transfer the call. Not everyone needs all the fancy features like a apartment leasing office they seem to like showing the lines on all sets. They often will only use phone company voice mail service mail.

I have noticed that most phone users really only use a few features like HOLD, TRANSFER, VOICE MAIL, PAGE. Trying to get them to use other features usually gets a look from them like they have got better things to do than train on a new handset. What have you guys experienced when it comes to training the average office staff member. Do you find that they are really excited about all the new features and want to try them out?

There's an excellent FAQ by IpGuru on using line appearances on an ip office.

That really depends on what they are used to, and if they can benefit from the new features.

Here the Mobile twinning feature is a winner, while voicemail is sooo 90's.:)

Kind regards

Gunnar
