When deploying Office 2000 via SMS on NT workstations with a system or boot partition of greater than 7.8GBs causes computer not to restart after Office 2000 install.

Error message: Disk I/O error stats =00000001, Windows NT could not start because the following file is missing or corrupt: c:\winnt\system32\c_1252.nls.

The resolution according to MS is to decrease the boot partition below 7.8 GB. Unfortunately this is a great deal of work....anyone have another solution or have had experience with this particular problem?

Thank You.

This problem does not apply to Windows2000. Windows NT 4.0 boot partitions should not be larger than 7.8GB under any circumstances. If ever a system file is written out past the first 7.8GB of disk space, the Windows NT 4.0 system will not be able to read the file. Apparently Office 2000 (and I've heard Office 2002 (XP)) writes some new DLLs out at the end of the partition / drive space, thus te error.

Windows NT 4.x has a very hard limit of 7.87GB as the boot partition size. Windows 2000 boot partition size limit is significantly higher - but I bet we'll reach it someday.

In the middle of this problem now. Luckily the machine was original installed with a DOS partition, with Partition Magic installed. I'm in the process of reducing the NTFS partition to below 7.8GB. Keeping my fingers crossed.

According to Microsoft TID# Q161563 NT 3.x, NT 4.x, Windows 2000 Pro, Server and Advanced Server ALL have this issue. We had a 30 gig partition with NT4.0 Terminal Server and it was running fine until we loaded Office 2000. It was at that point we ran into our issue. MS TID# Q270862 Hit this one exactly. We are currently restoring it back and will test the Office 2000 install again, but this time using a 7.7 gig partition. Good thing this was a test box.

I Am currently trying to Trouble Shoot this Problem.

Error message: Disk I/O error stats =00000001, Windows NT could not start because the following file is missing or corrupt: c:\winnt\system32\c_1252.nls.

I have manually installed Office 2000 pro addition on a 40GB NT4 Workstation. I have found I can install everything except "office tools" and then I recieve the error message above.

Hoping I dont have to work with this resolution Below.

You can use Ghost and to unload the disk to an image file and upload it back (the same image) but make it less 7,8G
this will save the data on the diskl.

Ran into this problem installing Access 2000 on NT with SP5. The hard Drive was 20GB. I managed to get around it by copying the *.nsl files from a working system to the troubled system. Everything seems to be running fine now.
