With IE7 arriving this month i was wondering how people are planning to deploy it. Is it a good idea to use WSUS to deploy or do people prefer to roll it out as an MSI (if this is possible)?

What are you all doing?

I was planning on using the IEAK - that way it can be pushed to terminal servers nicely also.

i was looking around for the MSI can anyone point out the url if they have found it???

Stand up wherever you are, go to the nearest window and yell as loud as you can, 'I'm mad as hell, and I'm not going to take it anymore.'

There is no native MSI - you can see this by extracting the EXE. It has an update.exe - that is all.

You can make your own MSI - I can't think of any reason why it won't work with IE7.

The IEAK is the supported method of deploying IE - always has been.

I created a package using the IEAK and it just creates a custom update.exe file, what are the supported ways of rolling this out to hundreds of clients?

I'm thinking of using the update that WSUS if offering instead.

Thanks.

I dont think there is any reason to reinvent the wheel, just role it out with WSUS.

just my 2 cents,

We used WSUS and it worked very well, aside from IE7 causing a range of issues with the GIS software we use. However on 2 machines we did get faulty installs and had to copy over to files. Normaliz.dll and another one that started with ie****.dll, on those 2 machines one I had to boot to command prompt and copy over from cd and the other just used bart PE with a flash drive. Good luck with yours :)

Ok i've found how to extract an MSI there's a thread on Appdeploy.com.

The WSUS method works very well (obviously) but we don't use images to deploy our clients so every time we build a client IE7 will have to be rolled out as an update. This process takes quite a bit of time so i would rather deploy it as an MSI so it's running IE7 straight away.

Cheers.

We're deploying to a subset of users for a couple of months then pushing out to all workstations via WSUS.
