Deploy Images

All you SMS gurus migh be able to assist me..

We are looking at buying Management Software and because we already have W3K and SQl server running on a few servers I thought to stay with Microsoft and use SMS.

Now I have a query:

1) Can it be used for network image deployment like (Windows XP Pro roll-outs) without buying additional software. What I would like to be able to do is to roll out client machines using something like SYSPREP installing all applications and package the image to be pickeed up when they boot.

It can deploy upgrades but not fresh installs. Problem is with say an image, it would need to install on a formated HD and sms client needs to be on a windows OS.

As I understand it, the next Service Release will include support for image deployment. I believe they call it a feature release.

Lets hold our breath.

Yeah, right now it is in beta-phase and is called "OS Deployment".
