Hello All,

I have a problem I cannot seem to find a working solution for. I have a client that has an HP running Vista Home Premium. Everything was working until one day, out of the blue, an error popped up. (most likely caused by some update) The error is in a Linksys Wireless card (WMP54GS V1.1) "The dependency service or group failed to start"

I have found one site that says to reload some system files:
When I ran the sfc /scannow it did find errors which related directly to these files so I replaced them. Still did not fix the problem.

I found another site that mentioned a registry fix by replacing a 4 with the number 3 but this system already had a 3. I don't remember the link or registry I looked at for this or I would post it.

Then I noticed DHCP Client service was not running. I have found this article which I applied: These settings where missing so I did apply them. Still the system will not start DHCP Cleint and still has the same error about dependencys.

I have also reset the winsock, IPv4, and IPv6 with the netsh commands. these also did nothing. I have rebooted multiple times after these fixes but still nothing.

I have applied all the fixes I can think of. I also uninstalled and re-installed Vista SP1 to no avail. Any other ideas I can try before re-installing the OS?

Thanks

Does it work from "Safe Mode with Networking", or from Normal Mode but as a different user?

Purely using this as a bit of a rough guide only, look in your Registry for varies entries that have a value of "DependOnService" and see if you can pick up anything odd or strange for the Services that are having problems.

I have not tried a different user but Safe Mode gets the same results. I have found out that the file nlasvc.dll is also not loading. It is the Network Location Awareness service. The file I downloaded the first time was larger than the one now currently on the system. However I noticed that on my system it is the same size and they are both SP1. There may be other services not starting but I have not noticed them.
