Demoting W2K DC with Exchange

We have a W2K server that is our Exchange Server and also a DC. I have read several articles/threads about demoting such a box. Some say "Don't" and some seem to imply no particular problem.

Has anyone demoted a DC that is also running Exchange 2000? If so, how did it go?

I did this and it was fine.. it didn't cause a problem but when I tried to promote it again, it went horribly wrong!!

Thanks. In our case, we don't intend to promote it ever.

Check that the recipient update services connect to another domain controller. Even if you forget this, there is no immediate problem.
