Has anybody got any experience of using Delphi 2009?

In particular, is it stable?

my rule #1: always wait 1 year to try a new delphi version (or at least 2 updates).

now, I am sure it can't be worse as the first versions of 2005-2007. (which really sucked)

I will try to download the trial (there is one I hope?) and play with it.

Another rule is to make sure your third-party components are ready as well. DevExpress has just released their beta support for 2009.

working for a few days with Tiburon now and I like it so far. Looks like there's a lot of new features:

read the blogs, interesting info for sure.

Stability is good for the moment, I'm still awaiting the first IDE AV.

XP3. Is that Service Pack 3?

And does D2009 need Windows XP Professional?

Ok, I have to rectract my statement about the stablity of D2009.

Something I do every time I go to a new Delphi version is port my component collection (DevExpress,TMS and others).
My #1 rule when using third party components is that they must have the source code included, this to ease the porting to higher versions.

well, porting to 2009 is NOT easy!

culprits are:
- strings are now Unicode, this gives problems with components that are already unicode like DevExpress and TMS.
- vcljpg library is now vclimg (includes PNG support)
- They changed TBookmark (TDataSet) from pointer to TBytes.
this one has huge consequences for data-aware components
like DevExpress.

So I think I going to let pass Tiburon and wait for Commodore (and again shell out cash for good components that support that delphi version).

My 2ç...

from what if seen of it so far:

the 2007 ribbon controls have bugs.

the TWebBrowser control still has bugs carried over from delphi 2007.

the ide loads and responds fast, help is also faster.
