I'm looking to get some screws that hold the hard drive caddy to the body of a Dell Latitude E6540. Where do you get the information on screw size? It's not in the user manual and there doesn't seem to be a hardware maintenance manual. Any clues?

Buy them off ebay. You usually you get the screws with the caddy. If not, look for Dell screws and you'll get you choice of many.

I did buy off ebay - wrong screws shipped with caddy!!! Need to get the specs so ebay seller can "make it right".
My choice of many means nothing as there are about 6 sizes of screws on that laptop.

I believe the majority of Dell laptop HDD caddy screws are M3x3mm.

I went to Link - If you hover over the 13th photo, you'll see the info.

Well, here are the screw listings from my service tag information. The screw is 8mm long so, it must be
WYNH6 SCREW, 2.0X8.0, STAINLESS STEEL, MACHINE SCREW, YNL, E3
but.... strange that it doesn't say M2x8.0

The logical way to figure this out is to have an M2 nut and test it, but I don't have one.

Go to Lowes, and in the hardware drawers they have them for like .27. But can work for a test.

Really? I would never think that they would have such micro screws/nuts. I'll do it if that trip can settle things.

check online, they can even tell you what the stock status is for the local stores.

Confirmed that the 4 screws on the back of the E6540 are all M2x8mm. There are two that hold the hard drive caddy in place and two more holding the back cover in place.

Got them at laptopscrews.com
M2x8mm Black OEM Wafer Head Machine Screw
