Hiya All

I have a dell precision 670 workstation, with a 3ghz Xeon processor.
It has a place on the mobo for another processor.
I was wondering, do I need to get the same processor thats already in there?

I.e., same GHZ, same core etc?

Or can I go for a bigger processor.

Also, I am trying to make a gaming PC out of this, and am getting a Geforce8800GTS graphics card.
Does anyone know anything about these Dell workstations?
Do they make good gaming PCs? or am I better off starting again with a new dualcore based PC?

Cheers
DB

Just remember the guts and glory of a gaming PC reside in the GPU, not the CPU. While you may smoke the teraflops out of the competition with a dual dual-core setup, if you're going against someone with 8800's in SLI and a Core 2 Duo you might not do so well. And I would NOT invest that much in a 5-yo PC. A single Core 2 Duo CPU, yes, a single 8800 yes, but these should be parts you can take with you when you eventually move up.

5 years is an eternity in the PC world, a good part of my last suggestion was tongue-in-cheek.

One thing I would recommend is that, since you have a Dell, you have access to a massive support network. Use it.
