Dell Optiplex GX280 Windows XP

I rebuilt a Dell Optiplex GX280 using a Dell restore CD, I installed drivers using the Dell Drivers CD. I am having an issue where I cannot get the drivers anywhere for the pci simple communications controller. I use a Barclays LedgerMaster program which uses the a modem so I assume this is why everything works bar the modem. I went into Modems and nothing is listed. I ran a conexant Modem Install from the communications list on the dell website but nothing as the communications controller is still down as a red cross in device manager. Any Ideas on this? I have been to the dell site and run the drivers but they dotn resolve the issue. Any help? many thanks.

Was the modem supplied with the machine or has it been added later? You mention conexant - does the modem have conexant written on it? Have you tried

to see if any drivers there work.

Its an on board modem I believe, I said Conexant because in the dell driver support page under Communications it states exactly that. Any ideas?

It sounds like someone or something has Disabled your Modem, can you Enable it in Device Manager?

I've seen that before on the GX280, if you install the Chipset driver and the Conexant modem driver you should take care of that error. Doing a Microsoft Update should also install the driver if you select to install drivers.
