Hi

I am attempting to setup a Dell OpenManage Server running IT Assistant. I have setup a number of servers with snmp running and my IT Assistant server is able to see these servers.

When I go into the Management section of IT Assistant and click on the Server Alert Actions it only lists the server that has IT Assistant installed and when I click on the server it asks for a username and password. when I enter a username and password a message keeps coming up saying that "unable to login to the specified system" - I have tried the root account, a domain admin account and a local server account but none of these work.

I also get the same problem when I click on the options listed under configuration, the discovered servers do not appear and the IT Assistant server asks for a username and password but I don't seem to have an account that it will accept.

Any help would be gratefully appreciated

Try this,

user - root
password - calvin

-If it ain't broke, break it and make it better.

Thanks for the replies

I am using server 2003 I have not tried it with 2000.

I have tried using the root account but get the same error

Do you get the error with all models of servers/pcs? I'm having the same problem and thought I had found the solution with that root account and password. Those credentials let me into some machines, but not others. I can't find a common thread for why it works sometimes and not others.

I've got a call into Dell to fix this problem. I'll post back with what they tell me.

the root + calvin did work but i have not tried it on multiple servers thanks

Here is what Dell had me do,

1) If you can connect and log on to one of your machines copy dcprv32.ini from root\program files\Dell\OpenManage\OMSA\INI and copy it to the same directory on a machine you cannot log onto. Try to log on again.

2) Reinstall.

Neither worked for me, but they might you. I've still got an open ticket with them so hopefully they'll come back with something else. Although whenever I'm asked to reinstall I know the mental cupboard is going bare.

I think my problem is that someone has reset the root password on the server, I logged into Server Administrator and went into Preferences, the option under SNMP Configuration allows for the root password to be changed however when I try to change this it says that the OLD password does not match the current password. I am unable to locate the dcprv32.ini file on any of my servers.

Does anyone know how to reset the root password or restore the original password

Any help would be gratefully appreciated

I have now resolved this problem.

I have a new server that uses the company's standard build (which includes the install of Server Administrator), when I add this server to IT Assistant I get the same problem which is that I can see the server and it recognises it but when I want to configure anything it fails due to the username/password.

So I uninstalled Server Administrator and re-installed it this time selecting a custom install. Part of the install allows you to add in a password for the root user, which I do. When it finished installing I added the server to IT Assistant and I was able to go in and select any option.

The problem I have is that if I want to re-install Server Administrator it requires a reboot which isn't always possible. So I need to find a way of resetting the password without having to install the software again

Thanks for the help

Rob
